Setup Information for Microsoft Outlook
It is recommended that you avoid Outlook and its variants.
This client is known to have significant security problems.
However, if you still insist on using it, read on.
Note:
The procedure seems to vary a bit from one version of Outlook
to the next. This should be close enough for you to figure the
rest out on your own.
The Internet Connection Wizard is accessed through the Add-> Mail...
button of the Accounts... option of the Tools menu of MUA. So from your MUA
select Tools Accounts... Add-> and finally Mail...
- The first page of the dialog asks for your full name. Enter your full
name and click Next> at the bottom.
- The next page asks for your e-mail address.
Enter it and click Next>
at the bottom.
- The next page asks for the server information. IMAP over SSL
and POP over SSL are the only protocols that can be used.
Select IMAP or POP from the choicebox.
Enter mail.taiga.ca as the incoming mail server and
smtp.taiga.ca as the outgoing mail server and click Next> at the
bottom.
- The next page asks for your mail id and password. Enter your UNIX
username as the Account name. Enter your password.
Although it is not recommended, if you wish your MUA to remember your
password then check the "Remember password" checkbox.
Click Next> at the bottom.
- Although the Internet Connection Wizard claims that all the
required information has been entered, it has not. click Finish
at the bottom.
- With the Internet Accounts dialog still open click on the Mail Tab.
Select the account you just created and click the Properties button on the
left.
- Click on the Servers Tab. Under Outgoing Mail Server (near the bottom)
check the checkbox that reads, "My server requires
authentication."
- Click on the Advanced Tab. Check both This server requires a secure
connection checkboxes. The SMTP server port should still be 25 while the IMAP
server port should be 993. If you're using POP instead of IMAP it should be
995.
Since this server uses a self signed certificate your MUA will warn you every
time you open it about mail.taiga.ca being an "untrusted
server". To fix this we must accept the certificate. The easiest way to
do that is in Internet Explorer. Open the following URL
https://mail.taiga.ca:993 in
Internet Explorer.
- Then click View Certificate.
- Now click Install Certificate...
- Now click Next>
- Now click Next>
- Now click Finish
- Now click Yes
- Now click OK
- Now click OK
- Now click Yes
